Minnie Wallace

Our First Borzoi, Minnie

When she first came to us, Minnie was quiet and didn’t want to make a fuss.
But we knew she was worth fussing over,
as she glowed and delighted in everything we shared with her:
doggy ice cream,
extra think dog beds,
3 1/2-hour home spa days with a warm dryer brushing her clean, Snow White fur.
And sunbathing.
Minnie loved sunbathing on crisp sunny days when summer changed to fall, and when winter changed to spring.
She loved us and she knew we loved her.

Half-way through our short year with Minnie, we brought home beautiful borzoi, Bella—first a foster and then family.
Bella made walks and sunbathing and snack time brighter and looked out for our sweet Minnie.
They were a pair, with Bella always slowing down for Minnie to catch up,
and letting Minnie walk in the lead the last block before home.

In her last month, we brought home another foster —young, roughhousing Ollie.
In her quiet way, Minnie let Oliver know how to be a good boy,
and he followed her around as though she was Queen Minnie.
Minnie showed Ollie that it was safe and life was good here,
and he showed us that he wanted to stay.
In a way, we gained goofy, cuddling Oliver from Minnie.
Like a gift Minnie wanted us to have and a loving home she wanted for handsome borzoi rescue, Ollie.

She was so beautiful and kind and the best sort of girl.
We are terribly sad,
but we are so much better
for the fun, wonderful, memory-filled year we had with our best first girl, Minnie.
