Lucky 13 - Nikolai
The chronicles of Lucky 13 NBRF Rescue Nikolai
4 1/2 year old Nikolai arrives home as a foster - “You realize our family sucks at fostering, right? Last time we did that Denise the greyhound never left and spent the rest of her life living it up on our couches and beds!
1 day in - “It was inevitable, we were going to fail. It hadn’t even been 4 hours and dad said “I’ve already resigned myself to the fact that he’s staying!”
He is so sweet! He got a nice bath and tolerated it so well. I’m sure it felt amazing. He was pretty grungy. He is definitely a big boy. He has a huge group of matted fur under his legs that we’ll work on next. Then a rewash next weekend. He isn’t interested at all in the other dogs yet. Too tired we think.”
1 week in - “Well, our boy has a few problems. Positive for two kinds of Lyme disease, very underweight (76#!), and general weakness! Figures since he was tied up!! The veterinarian thinks it’s weakness causing him the pain in his right hind leg. We’re to try and put some weight on him and get him in condition. So far we haven’t been able to get him to eat much. He got his vaccinations and is negative for heartworms.”
1 month in - "I would say that Mr. Niks is settling in. Also, I discovered he likes to be “fork fed” Mac n Cheese. But who doesn’t! He loves playing with Ryleigh, our rescue lab mix. They were running and running. He’s fast! But when all is said and done, he likes lounging on the newly discovered couches or dog beds with his Borzoi pack mates, April and Dimitri."
2 months in - “Niko is so awesome!! Sweet, loving and a fast learner! He fits in well with the rest of the pack and loves to play! I think we’ve failed this fostering thing!!!”
The current situation - “We’re so in love with this guy. He is super sweet and has come so far in such a short time. He still has “stuff “ to learn, but he learned love so fast. Nikolai is home forever!”
Thank you, Sharon, Joe and Becky for opening your hearts and home to this sweet boy in need! This is no fail! This is Foster Success at its best!! Congratulations!!
